I was listening to Pat Dorinson’s Cowboy Libertarian podcast of 31 July 2011 this morning ( http://www.cowboylibertarian.com/Patrick_Dorinson_On_KFBK.aspx ) . Pat has a Libertarian radio show out of Sacramento and does a really good job. His very first piece was an interview with a local lady who has a cow share. She sells shares of her two dairy cows and the cow owners are entitled to a share of the raw milk. Recently, the CFDA (CA Food and Drug) tried to shut her down. Fortunatly, the local prosecutor has some common sense and refused to prosecute her. It’s a great listen and well worth your time. There is no way that in this country milk should be the 2nd most traded black market item, behind drugs.
I have a solution for this. Having sat through more hours of mandatory Federal training on sexual harassment, EO, etc, etc I propose that we mandate 2 hours per quarter of training for all Federal workers and contractors on civil liberties. Since there are no in-house subject matter experts, I suggest we contract with folks like the Mises Institute and Hillsdale College to write the curriculum. I know, in my lifetime, the culture of the military has been changed through this type of training from strippers in the O’club and 2 beer lunches to absolute political correctness. While I don’t advocate strippers or drinking and driving, if a culture can be changed that much in that short a time, think how effective civil liberties training of the Federal workforce could be!
