Beaurocracy

I spent most of yesterday trying to get a package through the approval process so we can get the living area ofour contractors fixed. Specifically, the plumbing was done origionally so poorly that unless the blackwater is pumped very frequently, the fumes back up into the latrine space, causing them to develop upper respritory illness and costing us instructor time.

The project cost is so small, under $30,000, that it was agreed we don’t need to take it to the review board process. But, because it is so small no one is quite sure what process to use, since they have never done one! The is a project I inherited from the guy I took over from, which he has spent the last 4 months trying to get to this point! It shouldn’t take more than a month to get final funding and approval, then we get it on the wait list for the contractor to get around to assigning a crew, then the actual work gets done. Maybe it will get done before I leave in April….

Not exactly what this Dumb Ass Tanker (DAT) had in mind for a deployment to a combat zone….
